Biography

Sheldon Edner is a professor in the Schar School of Policy and Government at George Mason University. He teaches courses on the Introduction to Public Administration, Ethics and Administration, Emergency Management and Third Party Governance.

In May, 2010 he retired from the U.S. Department of Transportation as associate director for financial management, Office of the Secretary, where he was responsible for the cybersecurity of the Department’s financial system, grants management issues, travel systems management, and the payroll process for the 55,000 DOT employees. From 2008-10, he staffed the position of senior accountable official for the implementation of the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act and was a member of the Office of Management and Budget Grants Policy Committee. Prior to joining the Office of the Secretary,  Edner served as team lead for Metropolitan Transportation Planning with the Federal Highway Administration for 10 years.

From 1976-91, Edner was on the faculty of Portland State University, serving as a professor of public administration and chair of the public administration department (1989-91). He also served as assistant director of the Center for Urban Studies (1982-89).
