Solving climate change is a grand challenge facing the planet. As more individuals and leaders are recognizing the need to switch to environmentally friendly practices, George Mason University’s Local Climate Change Planning Initiative (LCCPI) is helping make that a reality for counties across Virginia. “Our vision is to have Mason be the lead university in helping counties that lack the resources and expertise in [addressing climate change] get this done,” said Paul Bubbosh, a 1988 Mason alumnus and adjunct professor at the Schar School and College of Science.

The meeting, which followed a walking tour of the construction site that will soon be transformed into a hub for the Innovation District in Arlington and the Innovation Pilot Space in Vernon Smith Hall, focused on ways that Mason could strategically fill the growing need for tech talent in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area.

Mason doctoral student Elizabeth Davis has received a prestigious American Educational Research Association (AERA) dissertation grant to help her research on newcomer schools in the United States.

As associate director of the Office of Military Services, Barnett provides military-affiliated students with one-on-one support for everything from financial aid to counseling to career services.

Ginsberg was appointed interim provost in March 2020 by George Mason interim President Anne Holton. That August, Washington named him to the position permanently for a two-year term to expire in August 2022. An 11-year veteran of Mason, Ginsberg had served as dean of Mason’s College of Education and Human Development since 2010.

With the support of a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Mason researchers Vivian Motti and Anya Evmenova have developed a smartwatch application that will help improve the daily lives of young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
