Mason's Early Identification Program provides access to educational resources, mentoring and programming for students from seven local public school systems. In May, 112 high school seniors graduate from the program. Ninety-five of them have been admitted to college, including 41 who will be attending Mason.

Melissa Broeckelman-Post ran unopposed this spring for a second one-year term as senate chair. Under her leadership, the senate formed the Task Force on Reimagining Faculty Roles and Rewards to better recognize ways that faculty contribute to the university through teaching, research, advising, community service, and other actions. The task force plans to have an implementation proposal this fall.

George Mason University and Germanna Community College have announced a new partnership bringing the first Mason Academy program to Virginia students. The Mason Academy is a localized guided degree transfer program that is in alliance with a Virginia community college and is part of the Mason Virginia Promise (MVP) initiative.

The 15 students in the special topics class Facial Reconstruction started the semester with a generic plastic skull. Week by week, they sculpted different parts of their own faces, creating a portrait of themselves in clay and learning the forensic skills needed to put a face on a skull.

George Mason University’s Stephanie F. Dailey, an assistant professor of counseling in the College of Education and Human Development, recently discussed the importance of access to natural support systems and counseling after an incident of mass violence, such as a school shooting.
